Thomas William Oxton Jr.

Thomas William Oxton Jr., 19, of 1518 Bosley Hill Road died Sunday evening at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, the victim of a shooting that occurred on West Hill Road earlier that day. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., on March 10, 1986, son of Thomas W. Oxton Sr. and Diane L. Ziter Oxton, he attended schools in Adams, Mass., before his family moved to Readsboro and was a 2004 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School. A three-letter varsity athlete, he was on the baseball and wrestling teams, and was captain of the football team and an All-Eagle defensive back. In 2003 and 2004, he was recognized as an all-Western Mass. wrestler in the 145-pound class. He also was named the most outstanding athlete of the 2004 class and received the school's Urquhart Memorial Award. Mr. Oxton had recently enlisted in the Marins and was awaiting orders to report to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Besides his parents, of Readsboro, he leaves a brother, Gene P. Sebastino Jr. of Adams; a sister, Stephanie Oxton of Readsboro; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Janet Ziter of Adams, and his paternal grandfather, Thomas Wellington Oxton of East Stroudsburg, Pa. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Thomas W. Oxton Jr., who died March 13, 2005, will be Saturday, March 19, at 11:15 from MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at noon at Notre Dame Church by the Rev. Daniel Boyle, pastor. Burial will follow in the spring in South Hill Cemetery in Readsboro. A visitation period for family and friends will be Friday from 3 to 7 at the funeral home.
