Eunice P. Bruyn

Eunice P. Bruyn, 88, of 385 South Main St., Colchester, Conn., formerly of Pittsfield, died Friday at W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn. Born in Pittsfield on May 1, 1913, daughter of Lester P. and Grace Safford Phillips, she attended local schools and graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York as a dietitian. She had resided in Southington, Conn., before moving to Fort Pierce, Fla., where she resided for 12 years. She returned to New England in 1992, settling in Colchester. Mrs. Bruyn was employed by the New Britain General Hospital during World War II and was president of the Quota Club on New Britain. She retired in 1975 after 25 years of service with CL&P in New Britain, where she was a home service representative. She received a McCall Award for work with the Newington Children's Hospital and a Red Cross Award for saving the life of an infant. She was president of the AARP chapter in Fort Pierce and represented the elderly on the Indian River Community College board of directors in Fort Pierce. She enjoyed watercolors and was a member of the Berlin Art League. Her husband of 52 years, Louis H. Bruyn, died Aug. 8, 1992. She leaves twin daughters, Sandra Bouffard of Glastonbury and Vickie Bouffard of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at BELMONT FUNERAL HOME, 144 South Main St., Colchester, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colchester Senior Center, 95 Norwich Ave., Colchester, CT 06415. She was predeceased by a brother, Norman S. Phillips.
