Walter "Bud" Hewins Jr.

Walter "Bud" Hewins Jr., 74, died at his home, 840 Hewins St., on Thursday. Born on March 17, 1931, son of Walter D. Sr. and Ella Humes Hewins, he graduated from Sheffield High School. He was raised on Riverside Farm, owned and operated by the Hewins family since 1837. In his early years, he was employed with Conklin Limestone and on the family farm, where he helped his father with the operation of W.D. Hewins Lumber Mill, the dairy farm, cider mill, tree farming and ice harvesting. After retiring from the construction company in 1997, he continued to operate Riverside Farm Pool Water Co., retiring from there in 2003. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique John Deere and Farmall tractors, farming and maintaining the land he referred to as "God's Country." Mr. Hewins leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Patricia Joan Horan, whom he married on June 24. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Walter "Mike" Hewins, Timothy Hewins and Thomas Hewins all of Sheffield; five daughters, Tammy Hewins Blackwell and Theresa Hewins Licata of Sheffield; Pamela O'Reilly of Wilmington, Cindy Hewins Storey of Hanson and Cheryl Hutton of Lowell; a sister, Priscilla A. Hewins of Sheffield; a brother, Robert A. Hewins of Falls Village, Conn., and 16 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Bud Hewins of Sheffield died March 31, 2005.
