Mark E. Kelley Jr.

Mark E. Kelley Jr., 80, of Mount Washington Road died yesterday morning at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Care Center in Great Barrington. Born in Watertown on Feb. 11, 1925, son of Mark E. Kelley Sr. and Pauline R. Lucksha Kelley, he attended schools in Boston. He had made his home in Boston for many years before moving to South Egremont in 1974. A highly decorated Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an aviation radioman, second class, from 1942 until 1946. He was honorably discharged after serving aboard the USS Franklin in the South Pacific. Mr. Kelley had been employed as a circuitry manager for AT&T for many years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the VFW Post in Great Barrington, where he served two terms as commander. An amateur hockey player as a young man, he enjoyed his association with Berkshire School in Sheffield, where he was the Zamboni technician at its rink for many years. He was also involved with the Berkshire Choral Festival. He and his wife, the former Barbara Hession, were married Sept. 28, 1952, in St. John's Church in Roxbury. Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Henry G. Kelley of San Diego, and two sisters, Gloria Greenough of Brewster and Polly DePetriantonio of South Dennis. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mark E. Kelley of South Egremont, who died after a brief illness Tuesday morning, April 5, 2005, will be Wednesday, April 13, at 11 in St. Ann's Church in Lenox, with the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor, celebrating the Liturgy of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Greenough; and his dear friends Louis Daigle and Tony DePetriantonio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing may make donations to either the Berkshire Humane Society or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
