Henry C. Hyde Sr.

Henry C. Hyde Sr., 90, formerly of 306 Dalton Division Road, died Wednesday at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 19, 1910, son of Charles E. and Margaret Colt Hyde, he attended Pittsfield schools. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army Signal Corps. A self-employed mechanic, he owned and operated his own shop on North Street for several years. He also worked as a welder and fabricator for the Filkins and Rabouin trucking companies and Stapleton Inc., a truck servicing center. Mr. Hyde was a member of First Baptist Church and of its Men's Fellowship, and was a Cub Scout leader for the church. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448. He collected antique fire trucks and drove them in parades. His wife, the former Doris I. Signor, whom he married Oct. 13, 1931, died in 1975. He leaves three sons, Henry C. Hyde Jr. of Hawaii, Charles K. Hyde of Royal Oak, Mich., and Robert J. Hyde of Pittsfield; four daughters, Barbara C. Coleman of Pittsfield, Beverly A. Robbins of San Gabriel, Calif., Carolyn B. O'Keefe of Newbury and Janice L. Lear of Dalton; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be Monday, May 21, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., with the Rev. Robert Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services of the Berkshires or to any charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home.
