Andress B. Hoag Sr., 84, of 535 North St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on April 3, 1921, son of William and Helen Harrington Hoag, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Hoag was employed by New York Central and Penn Central railroads, and retired from Conrail in 1982, with a total of 41 years as a locomotive engineer He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a member of the board of directors for the Massachusetts Trappers Association and, in 1992, was named the Massachusetts Trappers Association Chapter III Trapper of the Year. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. His wife, the former Mary E. Delaney, whom he married Oct. 3, 1943, died July 21, 2003. He leaves three daughters, Patricia Ames of Dalton, Martha Downs of Canajoharie, N.Y., and Jean Grunin of Pittsfield; a son, Andress B. Hoag Jr. of Dalton; a sister, Virginia Scutt of Pittsfield; three brothers, Herbert Hoag of Hinsdale, Glenn Hoag of Pittsfield and Paul Hoag of Windsor; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Andress B. Hoag Sr., 84, who died Sunday, April 24, will be Wednesday at 9:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dalton Ambulance in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., 01226. Mr. Hoag will be lovingly missed by his sons-in-law, Richard Ames, Michael Downs and Gary Grunin; his daughter-in-law, Katherine Hoag; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Brenton, Andrea, Eric, Allison, Scott, Matthew, Anna, Sara and Kate, and his great-grandchildren, Joseph, Elyssa, Samuel, John, Michael, Ryan, Andress, Christopher Jr. and Kaleb. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Hoag of Berkshire Village. He is also survived by his faithful dog "Fluffy."
