Edmund Mercier

Edmund William Mercier, 85, formerly of 33 Walnut St., died Tuesday at Sweet Brook Nursing Home in Williamstown, where he had resided for a year and a half. Born in Pittsfield on July 17, 1915, son of Charles H. and Zoe Racine Mercier, he attended local schools. Mr. Mercier was employed by the former Adams Supermarket in Pittsfield for many years, retiring July 15, 1978. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church. His wife, the former Beatrice M. Laurin, whom he married June 4, 1938, died March 15, 1996. He leaves a son, Robert J. Mercier of Japan; a daughter, Joan E. Crowley of Berlin, N.Y.; a brother, Leonard T. Mercier of Spring Hill, Fla.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, celebrated by the Rev. William Eckert. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory maybe made to St. Mark's Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home. Mr. Mercier was predeceased by two sisters, a brother, and a granddaughter.
