Everett Newlands

Everett J. Newlands, 79, of 79 Hawley Road died Tuesday at Willowood of North Adams Health Care Center, where had been a resident since December. Born in Adams on May 30, 1922, son of Andrew and Anna Haneisen Newlands, he attended Adams schools. He joined the Army in November 1942 and served during World War II in the European Theater as a radio operator with the 97th Troop Carrier Squadron. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. Mr. Newlands was employed by E.D. Jones-Beloit in Pittsfield for many years, retiring in 1983. He then worked for E.W. DeGere in Adams for several years as a school bus driver. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Adams. He was also a member of the Berkshire Lodge of Masons AF&AM in Adams for more than 50 years, and received his 50-year pin in 1998. He was also past master of the Berkshire Lodge, where he was the lodge's youngest master at age 27. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Rose Lemieux, whom he married April 24, 1948; a son, Glen Newlands of Savoy; a sister, Della Jones of Dunnellon, Fla., and two grandchildren. Graveside services and burial for Everett J. Newlands will be at a later date to be announced. Calling hours at TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME will be Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Members of the Berkshire Lodge of Masons will conduct their Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Savoy Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220. He leaves two grandchildren, Raymond Carpenter and Corey Carpenter, both of Savoy.
