James M. Carr

James M. Carr, 49, of 1151 Reservoir Road died Tuesday at home. Born in Lebanon, N.H., on Dec. 6, 1951, son of James and Eloise Currier Carr of Sandisfield, he moved to Unionville, Conn., as a young boy, and then to Sandisfield. He attended both Unionville and Sandisfield elementary schools, and graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1969. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and moved to East Otis in 1996. During the past 15 years, Mr. Carr served on the Sandisfield Planning Board and Select Board, the Farmington River Regional School District Planning Committee and School Committee, and the Farmington River Regional School Building Committee. He also worked in both communities as a coach and organizer of the Otis-Sandisfield Merchant baseball league for more than 10 years. He was also the owner and operator of Carr Metal Products. Besides his parents, he leaves three sons, Jason T. Carr of Sandisfield, James P. Carr of Stockbridge and Colin O. Carr of East Otis; five brothers, Norman Carr of Grand Forks, N.D., Michael Carr of Otis, Patrick Carr of Pittsfield, Sean Carr of Sandisfield and Brian Carr of Columbus, Ohio; six sisters, Jamie Carr and Mary Cohutt, both of Otis, Peggy Field of Sandisfield, Theresa Carr of East Otis and Utah, Kathleen Dyer of Otis and Shannon Bates of East Longmeadow; his girlfriend, Denise R. Gould of East Otis, with whom he made his home, and his former wife, Anita Mailman Carr of Sandisfield. A memorial service will be held at Otis Congregational Church in Otis on Saturday at 4 p.m. Visiting hours will be today, Thursday, May 24, at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee from 4 to 7 p.m. Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
