Michael Wolodymyr Janowycz

Michael Wolodymyr Janowycz, 83, of 1482 Wells Road died Sunday morning at home. Born in Ukraine on April 23, 1922, son of Leo and Maria Zurakowsky Janowycz, he attended schools there and immigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Ohio. He earned a master's degree in animal husbandry and dairy science from Ohio State University and moved to Cheshire in 1958. A self-employed dairy farmer, Mr. Janowycz also worked for some years at GE in Pittsfield, retiring 20 years ago. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church in Pittsfield. He and his wife, the former Lubow M. Bodnar, were married June 16, 1948, in Kitzbuhl, Austria. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Vera H. Socha of Cheshire and Mariya Dragoner of Ukraine, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Michael W. Janowycz will be conducted Thursday, May 26, at 10 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. Robert Markovich, administrator of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Pittsfield, will officiate. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home, preceded by a Panachyda service at 5:30. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Pittsfield, or to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He leaves two grandchildren, Eric Socha of Cheshire and Oksana Boruskova of Ukraine. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister in Ukraine.
