Kenneth Jones

Kenneth E. Jones, 89, of 113 Main St. died Monday at home. Born in Bangor, Maine, on April 23, 1912, son of Franklin and Nellie Young Jones, he attended schools there and was a 1934 graduate of the University of Maine School of Forestry. He also graduated from the Yale University School of Forestry in 1936. He moved to New Hampshire for a short period of time and, in 1948, moved to Pittsfield. He moved to Tyringham in 1949. He served in the Navy during World War II as a lieutenant commander on the aircraft carrier Beleau Wood. Mr. Jones was employed as a forester with the New England Forestry Foundation from 1949 until retiring in 1988. He was a member and deacon of the Tyringham Union Church and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. He was also the town graves registration officer and a member of the Society of American Foresters. His wife, the former Alberta E. Fissette, whom he married in 1945, died Sept. 3, 1985. He leaves a son, Kenneth E. Jones of Tyringham, and a daughter, Linda E. Jones of East Otis. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Union Church, with burial in the Tyringham Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours and KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements. Friends wishing may make donations to the Tyringham Union Church in care of the Kelly Funeral Home.
