Joseph Francis Macksey Jr.,

Joseph Francis Macksey Jr., 72, of 2 Orcutt St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after being transferred from Williamstown Commons. Born in Adams on Oct. 20, 1932, son of Joseph F. Macksey Sr. and Nettie Biggert Macksey, he attended schools in North Adams and was a 1954 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served in Korea and was awarded several medals. Mr. Macksey was employed by Signet Sales of North Adams. Before that, he worked at Butler Wholesale Co., the former Sayles Department Store and the former Richmond Hotel. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St.Thomas and a former member of the North Adams Aerie of Eagles. An accomplished musician, he played with several area bands. He and his wife, the former Jean Gamache, were married Sept. 5, 1964. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Randy J. Macksey of North Adams, and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by another son, Edward Macksey. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the life of Joseph F. Macksey on Wednesday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Ashley Lynn Macksey Scholarship Fund through the Scholarship Committee at Hoosac Valley High School, Route 116, Cheshire, MA 01225, or through the funeral home, 6 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Pamela Bennet Macksey, and granddaughter, Ashley Lynn. He was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Kustra, Margaret Nelson and Eleanor Novak.
