Jane Louise Manning

Jane Louise Manning, 73, of 210 Old State Road, Berkshire Village, died Saturday afternoon at home. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 19, 1931, daughter of Frank and Mary Miner Mottor, she was a 1949 graduate of the former Dalton High School. She also graduated from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Jersey City, N.J. A registered nurse, Mrs. Manning was employed as nursing supervisor on the night shift at the former Edgecombe Nursing Home in Lenox. She also worked at the former Pittsfield General Hospital, now Berkshire Medical Center, from 1954 to 1959. She was a communicant of North American Martyrs' Church and a member of the Dalton Community Recreation Association Bowling League. She was also a longtime blood donor to the Berkshire chapter of the American Red Cross. She enjoyed gardening. Her husband, Charles C. Manning, whom she married June 6, 1953, died in 1980. She leaves three sons, Michael J. Manning of Hope Valley, R.I., Kevin P. Manning of New Richmond, Ohio, and Keith W. Manning of Arlington; two daughters, Deborah Manning-Barrett of Williston, Vt., and Linda Arini of Medford; three brothers, Walter Mottor of Lanesborough, Edward Mottor of Dalton and James Mottor of Hinsdale, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Jane Louise Manning will be Thursday, June 16, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at North American Martyrs' Church in Lanesborough celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to Elder Services of Berkshire County, all in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. She also leaves her sons-in-law, Stephen Barrett and Eduardo Arini; her daughters-in-law, Alexa Manning and Susan Manning, and her grandchildren, Brigid, Claire, Daniel, Sarah and Jessica.
