Joan Marie Fortier, 46, of 2867 Humboldt Court, Las Vegas, a native of Adams, died Thursday at home after a short illness. Born in Adams on June 23, 1958, daughter of Joan Jamros Fortier Lillie and the late Leo Fortier Jr., she attended Adams schools and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School and from the cosmetology postgraduate program at Charles H. McCann Technical School in North Adams. She moved to Las Vegas six years ago. She was a member of the board of directors of the Nevada Humane Society, and a member of the Southern Nevada Gem & Mineral Society, where she had been named a volunteer of the year; and the Winterwood Estates Association. She raised and trained many animals at her home. Besides her mother, of Adams, she leaves a daughter, Heather Bond of Watertown, N.Y.; her companion, Jet Erikson of Las Vegas with whom she resided; four sisters, Susan Randall, Helen Fortier and Chantel Lillie, all of Adams and Ruth Fortier of New Bedford; two brothers, Leo Fortier of Peru and Steven Fortier of Cheshire, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for Joan M. Fortier, 46, will be Thursday, June 23, at 2 at Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Burial will follow. There will be no calling hours.
