John F. Daly

John F. "Jack" Daly, 64, of 31 Henry Ave., owner and operator of Rita Marie's restaurant on Route 7 in Lanesboro, died yesterday morning at home after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield on July 4, 1936, son of Henry and Ethel Welch Daly, he was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, where he was a three-sport athlete. He received his bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington, where he graduated Phi Kappa. A Marine Corps veteran, he was the recipient of the American Spirit of Honor Medal. Mr. Daly was first employed in the credit department of Sears & Roebuck and held managerial positions in several other departments. He retired in 1990 as controller of the credit department. He was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church, where he was a lector, former member of the Parish Council and past president of the Men's Group. He also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and was a troop leader of the parish Cub Scouts. He was a former Little League coach. He and his wife, the former Judith A. Roan, celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary April 23. They were married in St. Teresa's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael P. Daly of Lanesboro; a daughter, Mary Kate Daly of Bretzenheim, Germany; a brother, retired Marine Corps Col. Daniel Daly of Front Royal, Va.; four sisters, Jean Giardina and Margaret Cranton, both of Pittsfield, Mary Daly of Brockton and Josephine Cultrera of Reseda, Calif., and two granddaughters. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Friday from 4 to 7. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis in care of the funeral home.
