Antonio Scapin Sr.

Antonio J. Scapin Sr., 78, of 130 Tamarack Ave. died Wednesday evening at home. Born in Lee on Dec. 11, 1922, son of Eugenio and Angelina Maule Scapin, he attended Lee schools. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Scapin was employed by Berkshire Sand & Gravel and by Petricca Construction Co. for a total of 40 years, retiring from Petricca. He was also a security guard at Tanglewood for 10 years and delivered oil for the former Lenox Oil Co. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a union steward for the Teamsters Local 404. He enjoyed boating at Richmond Pond for 30 years, gardening and trips to Maine. He and his wife, the former Mary E. Seward, were married Oct. 21, 1944. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Antonio J. Scapin Jr. of East Otis and Paul E. Scapin Sr. of Middlefield; five brothers, Victor Scapin and Eugene Scapin Sr., both of Pittsfield, George Scapin Sr., Joseph Scapin and Mario Scapin, all of Lee; two sisters, Anna Touponce of Lee and Libra Scapin of Colorado; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Martin of Lee, and a brother, John Scapin of Great Barrington. The funeral will be tomorrow at 10:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. Visiting hours will be today from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Mary's Church, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee.
