Franklin Edward Gwara

Franklin Edward Gwara, 64, of 21 Francis Ave. died Wednesday morning at home after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield on May 8, 1941, son of Chester L. and Gladys M. Thomas Gwara, he was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He moved to Adams two years ago. A roofing contractor, Mr. Gwara owned and operated Commercial Roofing in Pittsfield for 33 years. He retired in 2002 after selling the business. He was a fisher and hunter and a member of the Lenox Bow Club. In his youth, he played baseball and softball for local teams. He also enjoyed traveling. His first wife, the former Carole B. Hickey, whom he married Sept. 28, 1963, died July 15, 2001. He and his wife, the former Donna L. Grover, were married Jan. 18, 2004. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Stacey A. Butler of Worcester, N.Y.; a brother, Norman Gwara of Lenox, and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- At his request, services for Franklin Edward "Frank" Gwara, who died Wednesday, July 6, will be private. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Jeremiah Butler; his grandson, Shawn M. Butler; his first wife's mother, Yolanda Hickey, and his first wife's brother, Thomas E. Hickey Jr., both of Pittsfield, as well as nieces and nephews.
