Charles Benedict Wheeler, Sr.

Charles Benedict Wheeler, Sr., 93, formerly of Route 71, died Friday afternoon, June 1, 2001 at the Village at Laurel Lake where he had been a resident since March 2001. Born November 2, 1907 in Great Barrington, he was the son of Ernest and Grace Ford Wheeler. He attended local schools. A long time resident of Route 71, he operated a dairy farm until the late 1960s. For several years he also ran a logging business. Mr. Wheeler worked for both the town of Egremont and Mount Washington and in construction until his retirement in 1985 at the age of eighty. Prior to that he worked for Charlie Wyman. He married the former Angelina M. Biasin June 12, 1930. Mrs. Wheeler died in February 1958. Mr. Wheeler is survived by his son; Charles B. Wheeler, Jr. and his wife Diane of Lee, five grandchildren; Daniel, Tamera, Tari. Tracy & Daryl and twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving caregivers of the past four years; James and Helen Curtin of Lee. Funeral services for Mr. Charles Wheeler will be Monday, June 4, 2001 at one o’clock p.m. at the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Bert Marshall, pastor the First Congregational Church of Lee. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from twelve noon until the time of the service.
