Andrew Rumgay

Andrew C. Rumgay, 78, of 17 Pleasant St. died Monday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted Sunday. Born in North Adams on Nov. 3, 1922, son of Andrew C. Rumgay Sr. and Alice Beaman Rumgay, he attended North Adams schools. Mr. Rumgay was first employed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Works as a mechanic in the Adams garage. He was later employed by the Harry Smith Ford Agency, Noel Inc. Auto Parts, North Adams Motor Supply Co. and Hooker Chemical. He retired in 1968. He was a member of First Congregational Church and the Berkshire Lodge of Masons AF&AM, where he was a past master and held all chairs of the lodge. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge 1335. His wife, the former Marjorie E. Dutcher, whom he married in October 1949, died Jan. 3, 1981. He leaves a son, Robert R. Rumgay of Adams; three daughters, Nancy Johnson of Hancock, Carol Rathbun of Lanesboro and Joanne Wandrei of Adams; a sister, Marion Paton of Troy, Maine; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be offered Thursday at 1 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME on Liberty Street in Adams. The service will be conducted by the Rev. John T. Carrick, pastor of the Adams First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. The Berkshire Lodge of Masons will conduct its Ritual on Wednesday evening at 7 at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial donations to the Berkshire Lodge of Masons AF&AM, 62 Center St., Adams.
