Wladyslaw "Walter" Popowicz

Wladyslaw "Walter" Popowicz, 91, of 36 Lorraine Drive died Monday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Poland on Aug. 20, 1914, son of Stanislaw and Anna Bucul Popowicz, he attended schools in Poland, and came to the United States in 1965, settling in New Jersey. He moved to North Adams 20 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Mr. Popowicz last worked as a baker for Tip-Top Bakery in Newark, N.J., until retiring 25 years ago. He and his wife, the former Adela Plaskota, would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Oct. 15. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral for Wladyslaw "Walter" Popowicz will be held on Friday, Oct. 7, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams, celebrated by the Rev. William F. Cyr, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Church through the funeral home.
