Dorothy C. Mott

Dorothy C. Mott, 97, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Leeds, England, on Sept. 21, 1903, daughter of James and Hetty Hebdon Wilson Charteris, she emigrated to the United States as a teen-ager aboard the ocean liner Olympic, the sister ship of the Titanic. After settling in New York with her family, she attended schools there and was a 1921 graduate of a convent school in Manhattan. She was employed as a photographer's assistant in Eddoes Photography in New York for more than 40 years, retiring in 1976. She moved to Lenox in 1998. Her closest survivors are a granddaughter, Alexandra Labatut of Williamstown; two grandsons, Theodore R. Douglas and Samuel A. Douglas, both of San Francisco; and two great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Elizabeth Douglas, died in 1990. The funeral will be conducted today, Thursday, June 7, 2001, at 11 at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, by the Rev. Robert Bella, rector of St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. Throughout her life, she had been a great friend to all animals.
