Rita C. Dapson

Rita C. Dapson, 65, of 14 Merriam St. died Tuesday morning at home. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 6, 1935, daughter of Suntina Guristante Spadafora of Pittsfield and the late Joseph Spadafora, she was a 1953 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was employed as a secretary in the CCD program office at St. Mark's Church for seven years. Most recently, she was employed as the office manager of Dapson Opticians, retiring in 1995. A communicant of St. Mark's Church, Mrs. Dapson volunteered as a teacher with its CCD program for 20 years. She also volunteered with the Pregnancy Support Services of Berkshire County. She was the 1987 recipient of the Pope Pius X award from the Diocese of Springfield for her work on behalf of the parish. An avid golfer, she was a member of Wahconah Country Club. Besides her mother, she leaves her husband, David E. Dapson, whom she married Oct. 29, 1955; two sons, Marine Corps Col. Matthew A. Dapson of Washington, D.C., and Thomas F. Dapson of Dalton; three daughters, Susan M. Russell of Mexico City, Laura A. White of Pittsfield and Diane C. Vetras of Seattle; a sister, Rosemary Sinopoli of Pittsfield; two brothers, Joseph Spadafora of Orange and Michael Spadafora of Windsor, Conn.; and eight grandchildren. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Sunday from 4 to 8. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:15 from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
