Richard Colburn Jones Sr.

Richard Colburn Jones Sr., 59, of 13 Comanche Drive died yesterday morning at home. Born in North Adams on Dec. 20, 1945, son of Alden S. and Annabelle McGinnis Jones, he attended local schools. He was an Army veteran. Mr. Jones was employed by the Savoy Highway Department for several years. Before that, he worked for H.A. George. He was a member of Stamford (Vt.) Community Church, Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Greylock Community Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and NASCAR. He played the guitar and drums and, in the early 1960s, was a winner on the American Bandstand Show. He leaves his former wife, the former Anne L. LaCross of North Adams; a daughter, DiAnne L. Vallieres of North Adams; three sons, Richard C. Jones Jr. and Eric Guertin, both of North Adams, and Gary Harding of Pownal, Vt.; two brothers, Lawrence E. Jones Sr. of North Adams and Charles T. Jones of Alton Bay, N.H.; two sisters, Patricia L. Tomkiewicz and Gail L. Dix, both of North Adams; six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Richard C. Jones Sr. will be Wednesday at 9 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, with a service at 10 at Stamford Community Church conducted by the Rev. William Wilson, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. He also leaves six grandchildren, Richard C. Jones III, Melissa A., Mathew S. and Megan E. Vallieres, and Stephanie E. and Tiffany A. Jones, all of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alden S. Jones Jr. and Donald Edward Jones, and a sister, Priscilla Marchegiani.
