Wallace Olds Sr.

Wallace C. Olds, 77, of 390 Chapel St. in East Lee died Tuesday at Laurel Lake Center. Born in Lee on Aug. 2, 1923, son of Ralph and Lydia Turner Olds, he was educated in local schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the medical corps in Hawaii from 1943 to 1946. He was employed at Monument Mills in Housatonic and, from 1957 until his retirement in 1987, at the Monument Mill of the Westfield River Paper Co. in East Lee. After retirement, he assisted his son, Joseph E. Olds, in the operation of Olds Limousine Service until 1999. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially to Old Orchard Beach, Maine. His wife, the former Madaline A. Sour, whom he married Nov. 5, 1949, died Jan. 4, 2001. Besides his son of East Lee, he leaves two other sons, Ralph W. Olds of Lee and Wallace C. Olds Jr. of Morristown, Tenn.; two sisters, Olive Myrtle Carrington of Lee and Florence Barry of Lakeville, Conn.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Kathy Olds Mindle, died Jan., 1992. The funeral will be Friday at 10:15 from the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with services at 11 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee with the Rev. Canon Noel A. Bailey, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. George's Episcopal Church or the Lee Regional Visiting Nurse Association.
