JESSE RACHEL (LEWIS) CROSS

Mrs. Jesse Rachel (Lewis) Cross, 97, formerly of Ashland Park Apartments, 150 Ashland Street, North Adams, MA, died Monday December 25, 2000, at the Timberlyn Heights Nursing and Alzheimers Center, 320 Maple Avenue, Great Barrington, MA. She had been a resident there since December 19, 1995. She was born in North Adams, MA on November 23, 1903, and a daughter of the late Raymond Charles Lewis and Ethel May (Brown) Lewis. She was educated in North Adams Schools. In her younger years, she was employed with the former J.J. Newberry Store on Main Street, North Adams, MA, and also in various restaurants in the North Adams area. She devoted most of her life as a home maker for her family. Mrs. Cross was a member of the First United Methodist Church of North Adams, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #996 auxiliary color guard. She was the widow of Frederick William Cross, whom she married on November 14, 1942 in Adams, MA, and he died on June 25, 1987 in Pittsfield, MA. Mrs. Cross is survived by two daughters, May Elizabeth Cross of Pittsfield, MA, and Patricia Charron of Adams, MA, and one son, Frederick William Cross, Jr. of North Adams, MA, and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Pietrzyk of Williamstown, MA, and two brothers, David V. Lewis of Cheshire, MA, and Franklin D. Lewis of Elmonte, CA, and two stepsister, Mrs. Mildred Conroy and Mrs. Helen Santelli, both of North Adams, MA, and five grandchilren, Gloria Duprea, William Cross, Joan Cross and Scott Cross of North Adams, and Fred Charron of Adams, MA, and niece and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeased by a sister, Mrs. Ruth Riley and five brothers, William, Edward "Pete", Herbert D., and James T. Lewis. Funeral services of Jessie (Lewis) Cross will take place Wednesday evening, December 27, 2000 at 7:00 PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals-Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA. Burial will take place at a later date. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA, are Wednesday, December 27, 2000 from 4 PM until the time of the funeral.
