Celinda Mendel

Celinda Eleanora Mendel, 85, of 49 Zeff Drive, Salisbury Estates, died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on July 27, 1915, daughter of Conrad F. and Louise M. Grandshaw Bigelow, she attended local schools. Mrs. Mendel was a homemaker. Her husband, Elmer F. Mendel, whom she married Nov. 26, 1938, at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, died June 18, 1994. She leaves a son, Frederick J. Mendel of Quincy; a daughter, Eleanor E. Forrest of Manchester, N.H.; two brothers, John R. Bigelow of Pittsfield and Daniel H. Bigelow of Springfield; three sisters, Margaret C. Pettibone, Veronica G. Martin and Louise M. Ludbrook, all of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Constance Paul, who died in October 1974. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pittsfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Peter D. Boehringer, pastor of Zion's Lutheran Evangelical Church, officiating. Those attending are asked to meet inside the cemetery gate at 11:15. There are no calling hours. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. She was predeceased by three brothers, Conrad W. Bigelow, Louis F. Bigelow and Arthur W. Bigelow. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services for Elmer F. Mendel, who died June 18, 1994, in Brockton, will be held with that of his wife, Celinda E. Mendel, as they had together wished, on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pittsfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Peter D. Boehringer, pastor of Zion's Lutheran Evangelical Church, officiating. Those attending are asked to meet inside the cemetery gate at 11:15. A daughter, Constance Paul, died in October 1974. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
