Ralph E. Howard

Ralph E. Howard, 81, of 33600 Calimesa Blvd., Hillcrest Mobile Estates, Yucaipa, Calif., formerly of Pittsfield, died May 22 at Veterans Hospital in Redlands, Calif. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 29, 1920, son of Clarence W. and Marjorie H. McKay Howard, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1937. Mr. Howard entered the Marine Corps on Feb. 14, 1940, and served for 30 years. He retired with the rank of sergeant major in 1970. He was a veteran of Guadalcanal and Korea, and was stationed at The Hague embassy in the Netherlands. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by Follwell's Greenhouse and worked as an usher at the Colonial Theatre. While a resident of Pittsfield, he was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church. While a resident of Yucaipa, Mr. Howard served as president of the Southern California Mobile Home Association. He leaves his wife, the former Freda Oliver, and a brother, Russell W. Howard of Dalton.
