James J. Toole Sr.

James J. Toole Sr., 90, formerly of 11 Brown St., died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. Born in Lenox Dale on Nov. 9, 1910, son of Thomas A. and Nora Keagan Toole, he attended local schools. Mr. Toole was employed by the former Smith Paper Co. and Kimberly-Clark Corp. for a total of 43 years. He retired in 1973. During the 1920s, he worked for area building contractors and at the former Berkshire Hunt and Country Club at Wyndhurst, which is now Cranwell. From the age of 12 until 1926, he drove draft horses for his family's gravel business in Lenox Dale. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale and a member of SPINC, the local union, at the mill. He enjoyed gardening. His wife, the former Catherine M. Connors, whom he married in 1946, died Oct. 15, 1982. He leaves a son, James J. Toole Jr. of Lenox Dale, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
