Charles R. Palmer

Charles Raymond Palmer, 90, of 5 Melrose St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Saturday. Born in Adams on April 29, 1911, son of Charles E. and Margaret Purcell Palmer, he attended Adams schools. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 97th Signal Battalion of the Army in the European Theater of Operations. Mr. Palmer was employed by the former New England Electric Co., now National Grid, out of its Westboro office for more than 47 years, retiring in 1974. While working there, he had resided in Arlington and Westboro, and also in Rhode Island. He returned to Adams after his retirement. He leaves his wife of 62 years, the former Freda M. Dennis, whom he married Oct. 8, 1938, and a sister, Margaret A. Gentile of Housatonic. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. Mr. Robert Moulton, permanent deacon of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund through the funeral home. He was predeceased by three brothers, Gerald Palmer, Leo Palmer and Kenneth Palmer.
