Frederick Chichester

Frederick Chichester, 72, of 11548 Hollyridge Drive, Tyler, Texas, died May 25 at home. He was the husband of the former Neoma A. Joppich of Adams. Born in New Haven, Conn., on April 28, 1929, son of Noah Frederick and Florilla Adkins Chichester, he attended schools there and graduated after his service in the Navy during World War II. He later graduated from Colorado State College, the University of Connecticut and, in 1966, earned his doctorate in soil science from the University of Oregon. Mr. Chichester was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture at several stations, most recently for 16 years in Temple, Texas, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he and his wife, Neoma, trained with the Wycliff Bible Translators in Intercultural Community Development in Dallas. He then volunteered with ECHO Missions Group in Fort Myers, Fla. He returned to Texas in 1996. Mr. Chichester was a member of the Grace Chapel Assembly of God in Tyler. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Russell Chichester of Haskell, Okla.; three daughters, Lynne Sims of Polk City, Iowa, Allyce Williams of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cyndy Turner of Kermit, Texas; a sister, Lillian Hosmer of Phoenix, and six grandchildren.
