Harold Munson Sr.

Harold I. Munson Sr., 88, of 70 Pleasant St. died yesterday at Craneville Place, where he had resided for one month. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 12, 1912, son of George and Isadora Belknapp Munson, he graduated from Pittsfield High School. He was a World War II Army veteran and for a time was a prisoner of war. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Mr. Munson was employed by The Berkshire Eagle for 45 years as a compositor. He retired in 1974. He was a member of Dalton United Methodist Church and the Dalton American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, and watching the stock market and financial news. He leaves his wife, the former Rose Anne Bernardo, whom he married March 18, 1942; two sons, Harold I. Munson Jr. of Calgary, Canada, and Brian K. Munson of Quincy, and a grandson. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with the Rev. John Smith, pastor of the Dalton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton with full military honors. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Ambulance Fund in his memory.
