Sara C. Foote

Sara C. "Sally" Foote, 91, of Williamstown died Tuesday in Williamstown. . Born in Chicago on Nov. 11, 1909, daughter of William N.C. Carlton and Sara Hayden Carlton, she moved to Williamstown in 1922 when her father was appointed librarian of Williams College. She attended local schools, Wykeham Rise in Washington, Conn., and was a graduate of Smith College in 1931. Mrs. Foote was a gardener, tennis player and golfer and a member of the Taconic Golf Club. For many years she volunteered at Recording for the Blind and the Smith College book sale. Her husband, Freeman Foote, was professor of geology at Williams College. He died in 1997. She leaves a daughter, Nancy Newnham Foote of New York City. A graveside service and burial will be held in Old Lyme, Conn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society through the office of the GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
