Norman H. Babb

Norman Harold Babb, 91, of 320 Pittsfield Road died yesterday morning at Providence Care Center of Lenox. Born in Fairfield, Maine, on Sept. 4, 1909, son of Harold A. and Agnes Grevioux Babb, he attended schools in Benton Station, Maine. He moved to Manchester, Conn., in 1957, and moved to Pittsfield in 1993 to live with his daughter, Sharon Ann Babb. He had resided in Lenox since November 1999. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from April 2, 1942, to Nov. 18, 1945. He was first stationed in Hawaii and later in the Asiatic-Pacific theater as an anti-aircraft machine gunner. Mr. Babb was employed by Pratt & Whitney Corp. in East Hartford, Conn., for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Army-Navy Club in Manchester. His wife, the former Helena Margaret Cormier, whom he married Jan. 26, 1952, died in 1990. Besides his daughter, of Pittsfield, he leaves four brothers, Shirley Babb of Japan, Carlton Babb of California, Lawrence Babb of Bath, Maine, and Robert Babb of Wallingford, Conn. Norman H. Babb was predeceased by his brothers, Harold, Clarence, Louis, Bernard and Reginald Babb, and sisters Caroline Sullivan and Gladys Young. The funeral will be Saturday morning at 10:15 from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, retired pastor. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be Monday at noon at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
