Marie G. Bedard

Marie Germaine Bedard, 83, of 109 Housatonic St. died Tuesday evening at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Baker Lake, New Brunswick, on May 30, 1918, daughter of Denis and Sarah Caron Martin, she came to the United States at the age of 18 to become a nanny. She worked in New York City and later moved to the Berkshires. She was a teacher's aide at the former Family and Children's Services through a shared program with Elder Services. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Ann's Society. She was also a member of the 1918 Club, and enjoyed crafts and handiwork. Her husband, Theodore L. Bedard, whom she married Feb. 25, 1941, died in 1979. She leaves a son, John T. Bedard of Pittsfield; a daughter, Rita Bertolino of Pittsfield; four sisters, Annette Croteau of Pittsfield, Bertha Sylvestre and Rita Jewett, both of Coventry, R.I., and Marielle Chevalier of West Warwick, R.I.; two brothers, Reginald Martin of Amityville, N.Y., and Emile Martin of Coventry, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be held at 11 at Notre Dame Church, with the Rev. Earle A. Hebert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday beginning at 9:45. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, contributions may be made to Notre Dame Church in care of the funeral home.
