Leona D. Chenail

Leona D. Chenail, 93, formerly of 45 Spring St., died yesterday morning at Side By Side Assisted Living Facility at 114 Onota St., Pittsfield. She had also resided on Luce Road in Williamstown for 33 years. Born in Adams on May 15, 1908, daughter of Frank and Rose Hebert Denault, she attended Adams schools until moving to Pittsfield with her family. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1927 and from the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1930. A registered nurse, she worked in private duty before her marriage. She later worked at Berkshire Gas Co. until her retirement in 1972. Mrs. Chenail was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. She was also a member of the Spring Park Tenants Association and Senior Citizens, and of the St. Luke's Alumni Association. She enjoyed painting and being with her family. Her husband, Arthur W. Chenail, whom she married May 9, 1938, died Dec. 4, 1951. She leaves two sons, Richard A. Chenail of Williamstown and Robert J. Chenail of Pittsfield, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 6 to 8. Donations to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Four sisters and four brothers are deceased including Sister Irena of the Sisters of Holy Cross, Irene Denault, Eva Payette, Loretta King, Eugene, Leo and Bernard Denault.
