Joseph DeAngelus

Joseph A. DeAngelus, 55, of 28 Beverly St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on May 12, 1946, son of Eugenia Costello DeAngelus and the late Angelo F. DeAngelus, he attended Bartlett Elementary School in Pittsfield and St. Anthony's School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He graduated from Pompano Beach (Fla.) High School in 1964. In 1968, he entered the Camodolese Monastery in Bloomingdale, Ohio, as a monk until 1970, and was named an honorary brother in that order. He then graduated from Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in environmental and graphic design, with honors, in 1985. Mr. DeAngelus was employed by the Yankee Shopper for a short time and then by Berkshire Gas Co. for 10 years as a computer draftsman in the engineering department. He retired in 1994 because of blindness. He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Berkshire Benevolent Society for the Blind. He was a promoter of the Miraculous Medal. Besides his mother, of Dalton, he leaves his wife, the former Paula O. Dresser, whom he married June 5, 1992; a sister, Virginia A. Weber of Dalton; a stepdaughter, Erica D. Dresser of Dalton, and two stepgrandchildren. Funeral Services will be Monday, June 18, at 8 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Benevolent Society for the Blind in care of the funeral home.
