Mary de Beaumont

Mary Deland Kelley de Beaumont, 87, of Manchester, formerly of Richmond, died Friday at Beverly Hospital. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 16, 1913, daughter of Loring G. and Josephine Colwell Robbins, she attended Miss Hall's School and the Master School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and graduated from Vassar College in 1936. She moved to Worthington in 1960 and to Manchester in 1980. Mrs. de Beaumont was employed as a teacher by the Lanesboro School Department. She also worked in sales for radio station WSBS in Great Barrington. In 1960, she married Pierre S. de Beaumont and moved to Worthington. They founded Brookstone Co., a mail-order business with a chain of retail stores, in 1965. They sold the company to Quaker Oats Co. in 1980 and retired to Manchester. She was a volunteer for the Richmond Parent Teacher Association, the Junior League of Pittsfield and the Berkshire Garden Club in Pittsfield. Her first husband, Harold B. Kelley Jr., whom she married Nov. 25, 1936, died in April 1987. She and her husband were married in 1960. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Joan Hudson Kopperl of West Stockbridge and Kathleen McAllister of Arlington, Vt.; a son, Edward Colwell Kelley of Moretown, Vt.; a sister, Cornelia Robbins Bradley of Essex, Conn.; a brother, Joseph C. Robbins of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
