Sophie L. Ziter

Sophie L. Ziter, 88, of 33 Washington St., Brattleboro, Vt.., a former Pittsfield resident, died Sunday evening at Thompson House Nursing Home in Brattleboro. Born in Barre, Vt., on Sept. 15, 1912, daughter of Joseph and Eva Ziter Romanos, she attended schools in Barre and in Caribou, Maine. She had also resided in Littleton, N.H., and in Pittsfield. She moved to Brattleboro in 1971. Mrs. Ziter was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Brattleboro. Her husband, James E. Ziter, whom she married Sept. 7, 1931, died May 29, 1988. She leaves a daughter, Constance Weldon of Brattleboro, with whom she made her home; two sisters, Sadie Corey of Littleton and Louise Nell Brown of Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Marlene F. Ziter. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Brattleboro, Vt. Burial will be in South View Cemetery in North Adams, Mass. Friends are invited to call at MAX E. CARR FUNERAL HOME, 147 Western Ave., Brattleboro, Thursday from 4 to 8. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Ziter's memory to the Activities Fund, Thompson House, 30 Maple St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
