Anthony St. Georgio

Anthony St. Georgio, 81, formerly of 909 Main St., died Sunday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home. Born in Monteodorisio, Italy, on March 16, 1920, son of Salustiano and Maria DiGiamo St. Georgio, he came to the United States at the age of 14 in 1934 and later moved to Springfield. He joined the Marine Corps in 1939 and served, during World War II, in the South Pacific. After his military service, Mr. St. Georgio returned to Springfield, where he worked as a stone mason. He moved to Monterey in 1950. In 1981, he became employed by the Southern Berkshire Regional School District as a groundskeeper. He retired in 1987. He built two houses in Springfield and two in the Monterey area. His first house is now the main structure for the Eagleton School in Great Barrington. He was a member of the James A. Modolo Post Veterans of Foreign Wars 8348 in Great Barrington. His first wife, the former Elanor S. Glichrist, died in 1971. His wife, Elinor Nourse VanDeusen, died in 1996. He leaves two stepdaughters, Sherry Mallory of Mill River and Shelly Deane of Ashley Falls, and a stepson, Joey VanDeusen of Sheffield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, at St. Peter's Church, Great Barrington, with the Rev. William Wallis, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow at Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington. Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements.
