Albert O. Hubbard

Albert O. Hubbard, 90, of 373 North St. died Wednesday at home from complications of diabetes. Born in Windsor on Oct. 4, 1910, son of Eli and Joanna Stearns Hubbard, he graduated from the former Dalton High School, where he played football. His team won the county championship in 1928 in a memorable win over Pittsfield. He also attended the University of Wisconsin and Boston University. Mr. Hubbard sold insurance, roofing, siding, storm windows, beauty supplies, beauty school scholarships for student training, and cars. He also owned a maple syrup business, where he produced and sold syrup and related products, including syrup-producing equipment, worldwide. He was also the store manager for several convenience stores and retired as manager of the Top Tile flooring store in Pittsfield. He was a member of the Massachusetts Maple Producers Association. His wife, the former Ellen Smith, whom he married Oct. 15, 1938, died June 5, 1999. He leaves a daughter, Nancy Clemo of Dalton; a sister, Ruth C. Hubbard of Branford, Conn.; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Dalton Ambulance Fund. BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton is in charge of arrangements.
