George E. Pixley

George Edward Pixley, 81, formerly of 19 Virginia Ave., died yesterday afternoon at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since December. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 6, 1920, son of Dewey and Laura Jansen Pixley, he attended Springfield schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater and received a number of decorations, including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. Mr. Pixley was employed by GE as an electrician, retiring in 1980 after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the GE Pensioners and Quarter Century clubs, the General Electric Athletic Association and American Legion Post 68. His wife, the former Marion Whitbeck, whom he married April 6, 1946, died Aug. 19, 1989. His closest survivor is a niece, Holly Griffin of Lenox Dale. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. William D. Furey officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be prior to the service, beginning at 10. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Mr. Pixley is survived by his niece, Holly Griffin of Lenox Dale.
