Mildred C. Carlton

Mildred C. "Milly" Carlton, 88, of 4 Beech St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Commons. Born in North Adams on Sept. 15, 1912, daughter of William F. and Anna Lally Carlton, she attended local schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in 1929. She graduated in 1934 with a degree in nursing from the former school of nursing at North Adams Regional Hospital. Miss Carlton was employed as a registered nurse at NARH for more than 40 years, retiring in 1979. She was a maternity nursing supervisor for many years and later was the associate director of nursing. She was a longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church, where she was a member of its Rosary Society. She was also a volunteer and supporter of the church's annual bazaar and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Margaret 629. Miss Carlton was a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Association and a former board member of the Massachusetts Nurses Licensing Board. She enjoyed knitting and traveling. She leaves a sister, Margaret Kane of Corning, N.Y. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Francis' Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. She was predeceased by two sisters and one brother, Mary Irene "May" Gagnon, March 17, 1991, and Geraldine Claire Carlton, Aug. 13, 1996, and William Charles Carlton, Nov. 27, 1982.
