Gladys I. Harris

Gladys Irene Harris, 96, of 138 Chapel Road died yesterday morning at home. Born in Hawley on Sept. 18, 1904, daughter of Charles and Lillian Bourne Harwood, she attended Savoy schools and attended Pittsfield High School. Mrs. Harris was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. and by The Brush Shop in Northampton for several years, retiring in 1967. She was a member of Brier Chapel, where she was the organist for many years, and served as Sunday school superintendent and as chairman of the church committee. Her husband, Walden Harris, whom she married in 1921, died in 1976. She leaves a son, Nelson Harris of Savoy, with whom she made her home; a daughter, Viola Decoigne of Savoy; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by six brothers, Bert, Stanley, Dee, Archie, Harry and Floyd Harwood, and five sisters, Cleo Gould, Rena Harwood, Nellie Noble, Cherry Sebaski and Ethel Harwood. A Memorial Service will be held on a date to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Ambulance Service or to the Savoy Volunteer Fire Department through AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
