J. Richard Kelly

J. Richard Kelly Sr., 89, of 8701 Litzsinger Road, St. Louis, formerly of Great Barrington, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis. Born in Great Barrington on June 28, 1911, son of Edward and Ellen Purcell Kelly, he was a 1928 graduate of the former Searles High School. He also attended New York University, Boston University and the University of Notre Dame. He had resided in Great Barrington until moving to Tempe, Ariz., in 1972, where he attended Arizona State University and received a degree in accounting. He moved to St. Louis in 1992. Mr. Kelly was employed as a civil engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works for 35 years, retiring in 1966 as district survey supervisor for the Pittsfield office. After his retirement, he formed a partnership with Hank Granger and started the engineering firm of Kelly and Granger. While in Arizona, he was part owner of the firm of DIE-KEL Accounting. He also did private accounting consulting. He and his wife, the former Pauline M. Liston, were married Nov. 10, 1937. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John R. Kelly Jr. of St. Louis; two daughters, Pauline K. Minogue and Maureen T. Wuestling, both of St. Louis, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday morning, June 28, at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME. As he requested, a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale, where he and his wife, Pauline, were married 63 years ago. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7.
