Harrison King Sr.

Harrison "Roland" King Sr., 82, of 43 North St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Cheshire on Jan. 4, 1919, son of Harrison and Minnie Champagne King, he attended schools there and in Adams. As a young man, Mr. King was a woodcutter with his father for several years. He also was a truck driver for R.M. O'Connell for 15 years. He retired in 1981 as a milk deliveryman for ElMartin Farm after 17 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed hunting, gardening and hiking. He leaves his wife, the former Gladys E. Bickford, whom he married Oct. 25, 1941; three sons, Martin E. King of Morganton, Ga., Harrison R. King Jr. of Cheshire and Daniel G. King of Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters, Maxine C. King of Woodbridge, N.J., and Kirsten A. King of Thetford, Vt.; a sister, Winifred K. Dooley of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church or to the Cheshire Fire Department, both in care of the funeral home. Mr. King was predeceased by five sisters and a brother.
