Herbert Schneider

Herbert Chapin Schneider, 79, of Cottage Lane, Ashley Falls, died Sunday at Fairview Commons Nursing Home in Great Barrington. Born in Great Barrington on March 2, 1922, son of Albert T. and Alice Shove Schneider, he attended schools there. A truck driver most of his life, he was employed by the former Palmer Lines and the former Jones Motor Express. He retired when Jones Motor Express in Great Barrington closed in the mid-1970s. His wife, the former Margaret Collins, whom he married Oct. 21, 1963, died in 1972. He leaves a sister, Freda Schneider Davis of Conway, and his longtime friend and companion, Dorothy "Petite" Hankey. His six brothers, Louis, Charles, Clinton, Ernest, Roger and John Schneider predeceased him. The funeral will be private. There will be no calling hours.
