Janet S. Herrick

Janet S. Herrick, 88, formerly of 293 High St., died Sunday at Craneville Place. Born in Dalton on Feb. 27, 1913, daughter of Roswell W. Smith Sr. and Ida Gardner Smith, she was a graduate of the former Dalton High School. Mrs. Herrick was employed by Crane & Co. during World War II, then by GE in Pittsfield. She worked part time at the former Eaton Crane Co. until 1965. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, in Dalton, the Dalton Senior Center and Berkshire Chapter 81 Order of Eastern Star. Her husband, Ralph E. Herrick, whom she married Sept. 26, 1936, died Jan. 8. She leaves two sons, David L. Herrick of Pittsfield and Ralph R. "Corky" Herrick of Lee; a sister, Shirley I. Scace of Pittsfield, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, with the Rev. Robert R. Kyte officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Herrick was predeceased by a brother, Roswell W. Smith Jr.
