Harold Pierce Jr.

Harold C. Pierce Jr., 82, of 32 Old Stockbridge Road died Saturday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee. Born in Philadelphia on March 29, 1919, son of Harold and Lillian Peirce Pierce, he was a 1937 graduate of Manlius Academy in Manlius, N.Y., and attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. He moved to Berkshire County in 1955 and had resided in Lenox for four years. He enlisted in the Marines in 1940 and served as a second lieutenant with the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal. He was discharged with the rank of captain in 1946. He served in the Peace Corps in the early 1980s. Mr. Pierce was employed in the trust department of Berkshire Bank and Trust in Pittsfield. In 1959, he served as vice president of the Westboro National Bank in Westboro. From 1963 until retiring in 1978, he was vice president of the Agriculture National Bank in Great Barrington. He was a member of the Green Thumbs at the Stockbridge Botanical Garden, and enjoyed painting water colors and traveling. He was also a member of The Country Club of Pittsfield and the Wednesday Evening Club. He leaves his wife, the former Pauline Day; a son, Lawrence D. Pierce of Winsted, Conn.; a daughter, L. Brooke Heraty of Belmont, and three grandchildren. A son, Charles F. Pierce, died in 1985. Mr. Pierce was predeceased by a grandson, Damon N. Pierce, who died Oct. 6, 2000. A private gathering of family and friends will be held at the convenience of the family.
