Horace Robbins

Horace "Hob" Robbins Sr., 82, of Bears Den Road died Wednesday at home. Born in Barton, Vt., on Feb. 27, 1919, son of Henry and Arvilla Jesseman Robbins, he attended schools there. He moved to Sheffield in the early 1950s. Mr. Robbins was employed for more than 23 years as a lift operator with Butternut Basin Ski Area, retiring in the early 1980s. He previously had worked on the former Blodgett Farm and on the Albert Chapin Farm. He enjoyed gardening. He leaves his wife of 57 years, the former Barbara Porter, whom he married June 17, 1944, in Glenwood Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Marion M. Consaul of Sheffield and Vivian V. Stalker of Ashley Falls; two sons, Horace H. Robbins Jr. of Frederick, Md., and Wayne H. Robbins of Sheffield; a foster son, John Daniels of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Levi A. Robbins of Cummington; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Saturday, June 30, at 11 from FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Chester Howes, pastor of Sheffield Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashley Falls Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 until the time of the service.
