Arthur Chouinard

Arthur A. Chouinard, 93, of 85 Eagle St., a former longtime resident of 39 Walker St., died Saturday morning at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt., where he was admitted June 17. Born in North Adams on April 7, 1908, son of Joseph A. Chouinard and Arthemise Stringer Chouinard, he graduated from the former Notre Dame School. A musician, Mr. Chouinard formed the Tip Top Orchestra, in which he played the violin for 10 years. He also worked with his father-in-law, Albert Brooks, in new-home construction and designed and built his own home. His last job was as a foreman at the former Arnold Print Works, where he took several courses in textile management. After his retirement, he and his wife, the former Alice Eva Brooks, were volunteers for the Chamber of Commerce at the tourist information booth in North Adams. He was a lifelong communicant of Notre Dame Church and served as treasurer of the U.S. St. John the Baptiste Council Ledux 10 for almost 25 years. His wife, whom he married Sept. 4, 1933, died March 4. He leaves a daughter, Annette Cohen of Manchester, Vt.; a son, Edmond Chouinard of Providence, R.I.; a sister, Rita Kateley of North Adams; two brothers, Albert Chouinard of Williamstown and Alfred Chouinard of North Adams; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Funeral Mass at 11 at Notre Dame Church. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, will be Thursday from 9 until the funeral. Donations to the Notre Dame Building Fund in care of the funeral home. Two sisters, Valeda Caza and Agnes Chretien, and two brothers, Armand and Alphonse Chouinard, are deceased.
